Crazy Volleyball Practice

Before I even start, here's some background information:
My little sister just turned 13 in October, and she plays club volleyball on a 14 year old power team.  So in my mind, she's a pro.

Anyways, I went with her to practice yesterday, because I agreed to help her out by filming her volleyball practices and games so she could use the shots in the documentary she has to do for her Video Production class.

I found some of the exercises they were doing a bit strange.

First, their coach told them to try and jump to touch the ceiling.

It was a huge gym, I mean, the ceiling had to have been at least 30 feet high.

So all the players sort of just half heartedly hopped with their arms up.  It doesn't matter how good at volleyball they are, they had no chance of doing it.

Well, maybe this chick could have.

Next, the coach told them to get a running start from the end-line, and to jump over the net.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but volleyball nets are somewhere around 10 feet high.  She literally asked them to jump OVER it.

Again, the players tried.  The coach was yelling, "Come on! Convince me that you are trying!    Make me believe you can do it!"

The girls who gave it their all just ended up throwing them selves into the net.

I mean, let's get real here.  I guess in the end, all this builds some sort of muscle strength, and the girls who ran into the net hopefully won't be afraid of it anymore.  I'm starting to think maybe the coach was just messing with them.  But at least I managed to get some hilarious video for my sister. (:

Has anyone else's coach ever asked them to do seemingly crazy things?
